An accidental expatriate who blogs for Velvet Ripple Dawn

Hi, I'm Sofia

I’m a project manager, a parent, and an expat living in Rome, Italy.

A few years ago I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary assignment gradually became a new chapter of life abroad.

How It Began

Moving to Italy wasn't part of the long-range plan. Like many relocation stories, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far more significant.

Those initial months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, new routines, and higher expectations. Everyday tasks seemed tougher than they ought to be.

The Adjustment Phase

There was culture shock, uncertainty, and lots of hands-on learning. Yet gradually, routines took shape. We found places that fit us, met other families, and began building something that felt stable.

Why I Created Velvet Ripple Dawn

Most online information was either corporate relocation guidance or shallow tourism content. What was missing was an honest, everyday family viewpoint.

This site aims to bridge that gap — practical guidance drawn from real life in Italy.

What This Site Represents (And Does Not)

This site is:

  • Hands-on experience from living in Italy
  • Centered on family life and daily realities
  • Updated whenever there is a real change

This site isn't:

  • Not a tourism authority resource
  • Not a sponsored review platform
  • Not simply a generic travel blog

Looking Forward

Our stay in Italy continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll continue documenting what we uncover.

If you have questions about family life in Rome or anywhere in Italy, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Best regards,

Sofia
